Quinn Packaging have been awarded a special recognition award at the Pakman Awards in Dublin last week. The Pakman Awards are national awards that recognise excellence in waste management and recycling among businesses, organisations, community groups and initiatives in Ireland.
Quinn Packaging’s award recognises the contribution of their innovative new product, Detecta by Quinn, which is the first fully recyclable black plastic packaging, developed by Quinn Packaging to address the issues with recycling black plastics.
Detecta by Quinn first hit Irish shelves earlier this year, and with two major Irish supermarkets, Tesco Ireland and LIDL Ireland, moving to the new recyclable product, Detecta has already ensured that Ireland can recycle over 500 tonnes more plastic each year as a result.
Speaking of the recognition award, Quinn Packaging’s Product Development Manager, Thomas McCaffrey, said,
“This is a great achievement for the team here at Quinn Packaging and we’re delighted to receive this recognition on a national scale. There is no doubt the appetite is there among retailers and consumers to adopt the most recyclable products and to ensure minimum waste goes to landfill each year.
It is up to us as packaging manufacturers to provide the best solutions to meet this demand. Detecta by Quinn is a huge breakthrough for plastic recycling as it solves the long-standing issues which prevented black plastic packaging from being recycled.
With two major Irish supermarkets already using Detecta by Quinn for packaging meat products, the potential impact on diverting plastic from landfill is already significant and we’re confident this will continue to grow.”
Since its launch in February 2019, Detecta by Quinn has made international headlines and has earned recognition at industry awards on both a national and international scale.
